Things To Know Before Buying An eFoil Board

If you are looking to buy efoil, there are various things you need to know first. An efoil board is probably one of the most complex electric rides when it comes to how they work. A number of scientific laws as well as theories apply as to how the board is able to stand above water without touching it. It will be much easier to understand this if you know the break down of the components of electric hydrofoil boards that make them work the way they do.

Design-wise, efoil boards look similar to electric surfboards. But efoils are much smaller and slightly more difficult to operate because you have to since one has to control your height with your body weight. An electric foil is basically a surfboard with a hydrofoil attached underneath.

A hydrofoil is simply the long fin-like object that goes a few feet off the bottom of the board.  Towards the end of that fin, there is an airplane-like attachment. When this hydrofoil is attached to a board that is powered by a battery and a motor, the end result is the electric hydrofoil board, or what is most commonly known these days as e-foil boards.

The basic principle behind how the efoil works is simple. The e-foil board sails through the water at an upward angle which causes water to accelerate downward. This is where Newton’s third law, which states that “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”, comes in. The action in this case is water accelerating downward, and it reacts by creating an upward force which lifts the electric foil board out of the water.
